Black Currant Extract

The black currant is a deciduous shrub that 

originated in the northern hemisphere but 

grows rather optimally in New Zealand. Black 

currants have been called the “King of Berries”

because they contain several times the 

concentration of many vitamins like vitamin C, 

minerals, and phenolics compared to other fruits. 

Perhaps an equally attractive feature is their 

distinctive taste and aroma. Black currant extract 

products are often marketed as functional foods 

and nutraceuticals due to the health-promoting 

properties of black currant’s unique anthocyanin

research in support of black currant being used to

and to improve vision.
